Why you should use your own voice or professional AI voices in your Plotagon videos
When it comes to making movies in Plotagon, the way your characters sound can make or break your project.
Unfortunately, the stock text-to-speech voices that come with the program are a real weak spot. Theyโre robotic, monotone, and downright off-putting. Iโd go as far as saying they ruin the story and dialogue completely. Personally, I switch off 9 times out of ten if I hear them in a video โ itโs that bad.
If youโre serious about your storytelling, youโve got two much better options: using your own voice or investing (not that much money) in professional AI voices.
The problem with stock voices
Plotagonโs built-in voices might work if youโre just playing around with the software or making a quick test animation, but theyโre not going to cut it for anything you want people to take seriously. These voices are flat, lifeless, don’t pronounce things properly, and never truly match the emotions or tone of your script.
When someone hears a robotic voice delivering heartfelt dialogue or trying to land a joke, itโs an instant turn-off. It pulls the viewer out of the story and reminds them theyโre watching something artificial. Why put so much effort into making the thing just to have the voices ruin the experience?
Using your own voice
The best option, if you can manage it, is to use your own voice. Itโs not as hard as it might sound, believe me, and the payoff is huge. Recording your own dialogue gives you complete control over how your characters sound and emote. You can make sure every word is delivered exactly how you imagined it.
Even if youโve got multiple characters in your film, voice-changing apps make it easy to switch things up. There are tools out there that let you tweak pitch, tone, add effects, or even become a totally different person altogether, thus making it possible for you to play every character yourself.
Professional AI voices with ElevenLabs
If using your own voice isnโt an option โ or you want a polished, professional feel โ AI voices are a fantastic alternative. Services like ElevenLabs are lightyears ahead of the built-in text-to-speech voices you get in Plotagon. And using them won’t break the bank.
For just $5 a month, ElevenLabs gives you 30,000 characters plus a 10,000-character bonus. Thatโs enough to make several short films per month. This is the plan I myself use, and I always have plenty of characters left over.
What sets ElevenLabs apart is the quality. Their premium voices are trained on real voice actors, so the voices sound natural and expressive, with none of the robotic weirdness youโd expect from AI. Trust me, they’re so convincing, you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between one of their voices and an actual person!
You can even customise the tone and delivery to match your script, giving your characters the depth they need. Plus, they have an awesome voice changer that takes your recorded audio and changes it into any of the voices they offer.
It’s a small investment, but it will elevate your Plotagon films to a whole new level.
Stock voices in Plotagon drag down the quality of your work. It doesnโt take much to replace them with something better. Recording your own lines lets you control every word and add emotion to your project, while professional AI voices like those from ElevenLabs offer a polished, affordable alternative.
My advice: make the effort to upgrade your voices, as even if your dialogue isn’t quite there, the voice acting can make your film go from unwatchable to watchable.
